Fitting Vapor XXXX shin guards

Recommended Posts

I picked up some XXXX shins on clearance. I was in a rush so I bought both the 14" and 15" and will return the one that doesn't fit.

I'm 5'9".

While sitting down with my knee at 90 degrees, I measured from the center of my kneecap to the top of my skate boot: 15" (I've been told that 14" is more common for my height?).

I wear my shins over the tongue.

The 15" seems to sit right on the top of the boot. Maybe a couple of mm below. It looks like maybe it will rub?

The 14" sits a little higher but reduces protection a tad as the tongue seems a little more exposed...

Both are comfortable. The 14" seems to fit a bit better around my legs, but doesn't match my measurements. I can't really try them in a game since I have to return one pair.

For your style(tongue inside) the 15" seems to fit better. Try to bend your knees so deep as you can, if the shins don't go up, shins won't rub with skates.

OK I had a chance to fiddle with them some more. They don't move, so I'm going with the 15".

I'm 5-10 1/2, and wear Graf Ultra G70s. I went with the 15" XXXX's, and they fit fine, over the tongue.

I wear them a bit higher on my shin, so as to not to limit the full range of motion for my skate.

You might want to get straps like these to help you place the shinpad on your leg comfortably, as the straps attached to the shinpad are rather useless:

Thanks for the advice. I find the straps on the XXXX have to be pulled tight for them to stay in place. The 15's seem to fit well after I moulded the adjustable calf guards rounder to wrap snugly around the contour of my calfs. I will look for straps in my LHS though.

You can try to put the tongue between shell and liner. The shin guards will fit more snugly.

I'm not sure if there is a gap there since there is some velcro holding the liner all the way down. But I'll try in out. Thanks.

It works with my Bauer Pro Defender(between removable liner and shell), and it had worked with my CCM Vector before.
