Action Jackson 0 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 Where should the puck be shot on the blade with Sakic type curves. I was under the impression that it was a mid-toe curve. But when I shoot off the mid or the toe its always a flub. I did some research with the search button and was reading that some have said that this curve is a mid-heel? All help is much appreciated. Thanks :)
sickwilly 37 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 I felt like I had to shoot with the puck a little more toward the heel (at least when I started the shot and really leaned into it). I definitely flubbed shots when the puck was closer to where the blade opens up. I can't say for sure, but that's how it felt. I also follow-through a little lower. I switched from a milder, less open curve (Montreal Euro).
tamtamg 12 Report post Posted March 30, 2010 I have a non traditional wrist/snap hybrid shot. But is should give you some insight on why your puck is fluttering. Here's a pic of the puck pattern on my p92 after taking nothing but shots for 5 mins:For my shot, I start off with the puck on the toe of the blade, then do a mini toe drag to put the puck right behind the midpoint of my blade and shoot it in one motion. If you look at the blade, you'll notice a some what consistent pattern on the tape (it varies depending on where I'm trying to shoot it and heck I'm no pro!) which I highlighted. Notice how the the puck begins to move up the blade then curves back down. This is because I'm rolling my wrist over. My guess is that you're not rolling your wrist over. Tape up your stick with white tape and shoot some wristers. You'll probably notice the puck is moving straight up and off your stick before it reaches the toe. The longer the puck is on your stick, the more spin will be on your puck(no more fluttering pucks!) and more importantly, more energy will be transfered for a faster shot!*edit*So, I was thinking about the puck pattern on my previous session and I think the puck is moving too much vertically on my blade during my shot. So I went out shooting with my dolo (sakic clone) and tried to roll my wrist earlier in my shooting motion and got this puck pattern on my blade:This time it looks a lot flatter and follows the bottom of the blade better. Not to hijack the thread, but to the shooting experts, which is better? I feel like both ways are pretty accurate, and puck speed seems about the same (hard to tell with out a gun).
