Bauer 5500 Helmet

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Looking for a bit of advice. I have decided to move on up from the entry level bauer I currently use to the 5500 as it is quite a good price. The problem I am having is that I cannot decide which size to use. My circumference is 23.5in and according to bauer size charts this is the max size the medium will fit while the large fits this size easily. After buying the helmet in large ive found it to be not snug enough. When using the next size down, a medium I had to adjust it to its largest size and then it fit quite snug. Is it good to use a helmet where you have to use it at its largest size? Maybe theres a better fitting helmet for around the same pricepoint?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You may want to try the 5100 in medium. I am a large in the 5500 but a perfect fit medium in the 5100.

Your helmet is ok at max if it actually fits. Snug is good, but too snug will be uncomfortable.

You want it to be snug. It doesn't matter if it's maxed out or not so long as it doesn't move around your head.

FWIW, the 5500 was the only helmet on the market that fit when I was shopping until the M11 came out. The 9500/9900 might fit similar, but the 5100 was too narrow for me.

I decided to purchase the 5100 as it fits better. But when I put the old medium siZed bauer 2500 cage on it the cage does not fit well into the j clips. It's as if the cage does not fit the helmet properly. Should I bend the cage or buy another cage?

Does anyone know of a good way to bend them? does the affect the integrity of the cage?

Most people just either grab the two ends and either pull apart or push together the cage. It shouldn't damage it. Just go a little at a time until it fits.
