Nike Bauer One Comp vs. Bauer Vapor X:Shift

Recommended Posts

So, heres what's up. Today at an open ice, I finally felt lacebite, unnecessary tightness and that it was too narrow. So that means new skates for me@@@ :D

So I'm gonna go for either the Bauer Vapor X:Shift vs. Nike Bauer Supreme One Comp. So both skates are "in between models" The X:Shift is between the Vapor X:40 and X:50 where the Supreme Comp is between the One 80 and One 70(2010 line) So although there's been some talk about these skates on MSH comparing them to the One 70 and One 80. I did tons of research and I was actually pretty surprised. Look at this chart.

Skates: X:Shift One 80 One Comp/center]

Quarter: Tech Mesh Tech Mesh Tech Nylon

Liner: Hydra Liner Tru-Suede Leather Tru-Suede Leather

Tongue: Same

Outsole: Texalium Comp Full Comp Texalium Comp

Insole: Superfit w/grip Superfit w/grip Superfit w/grip

Runner: LS 2 LS 2 LS 2

Price: $450 $450/500 (Based on X:50) $300

So this being the case, I'm gearing towards the Shift or Comp. Does anyone have these skates? The major differences are the quarter package and liner. And of course the style. Or if you tried them on can you give me feedback? Thanks.

I have the pair of vapor X:shifts and from what I can tell is it's closer to a X:50 then X:40. It has the tongue, colouring scheme, toe cap from the X:40 while the liner, outsole, and quarter panels are from the X:50 skate. I've had it for over 7 months now and they've been holding up really well besides a couple of scratches and puck marks. They have gotten a bit soft but, they have held up nicely.

Thanks. Just wondering, what position do you play and would you describe it as a skate for a defensemen? I'm a 2 way defensemen, play bantam rep, I'm not the stay at home kind. And also how stiff are the Quarter Panels?

Skates are not made for a specific position. Try them on. If you are happy with the fit and they meet your budget requirements, buy them. As simple as that. Since you are buying them from La Source for Sports as it's their SMU product, you may want to look at their sales too. I bought One95s for $450 as they are trying to make room for the One100s coming out this month. I just checked the web really quickly and the X:Shift were at the same price as what I paid for One95 which are much better skates than the X:Shift. But the X:Shift is part of the Vapor line though and the fit is different from the Supreme line. The Supreme Comp is $329 but if it's stated to be between a One70 and One80, I suggest you look for something else even though the price is pretty good on them.

Edit: Just found X:shift at $329.99 on sale elsewhere - If they fit you properly, they may be a good deal for you.
