Get his stick off the ice right away. If you have to grab his stick after the whistle, do it. If they keep doing it, dump them on their ass. You have to figure out what the referee will allow.

positioning inside out is a must. Stick between the legs, balance is the most important thing. It'll take some used to gett them out of the front of the net, but it'll come. If they have their back to you a spine rake is a really painful treat, normally doesn't cause them to fall as well, so very few PIMs on it. Generally if you go in calm and collected rather than frantically trying to get them out, you won't get alot of penalties.

You can slash and hook and spine rake or whatever you want to. But it is a small league, and next game with that guy and he is going to be hunting for your head. I recommend legal tough roughing type action, not the cheap stuff. Do you really want to risk your health and ability to play hockey from retaliation in some non-pro game?

It is usually pretty easy to goad someone into swinging at you. Instead of flying in and dumping him, rough him up, question his girfriend's virtue, and manhandle him a little, but let him swing first. It is especially usefull if the ref is 5 feet away at the time. It will at least be the 2 of you going, and if you get skillful, you might skate away while he goes to the box.
