mission vanguard

Recommended Posts

I'm a bigger guy (6'1" and down to 240 lbs). I've had issues with several sets of frames over the past few years and before I buy a vanguard I'm looking for some input from anyone who has skated on them. Let me know if you're skating a Mag or Alum. I'm leaning Aluminium due to availibility and cost. Thanks in advance.

I guess everyone skates different. I used to skate aluminum's on my old soldier blacks and had a few durability issues with them bending. I'm only 150-160lbs but I guess I can skate fairly hard. Now I'm on a mag chassis on my new commander se's and it has held up incredibly strong, super light too.

I had a bending issue with my vanguard aluminum frames as well. Had my mags for over a year with no issues to date (**knock on wood**)

I just got the Commander SEs and it's my first set of magnesium frames. They are lighter than aluminum, but I really don't know how much. I came from Wicked 3s to the Commanders and honestly, I think the weight difference is marginal. I guess I'd have to really weigh them to see and believe the difference.

The mag chassis crack and chip. I already have a few chips near where the bolts are. I don't think they will do anything to damage the overall chassis, but they look beat up a bit already. My experience with alums and mags is that alumns bend, twist, etc. and mags chip, crack.

Take your pick.

I can't speak for the magnesium Vanguards, but I do have plenty of experience on the Redstar magnesiums... I've put well over 8 years on the Redstars with absolutely no issues. They have outlasted 3 boots as well. I am 6'5", and my weight started about 350lbs on these frames, but has gone down to 220lbs. Glad the frames have lasted, but more glad to be healthy :)

Skating some aluminum vanguards on my soldier ses. Haven't had any problems with them so far with bending and such, may be because im only 140 lbs but still. They are def good frames though, like them a lot more than the tri-di chassis i had before on my CCMs.

I have the aluminium chassis on my Leiutenants and this weekend I noticed a bend/dent in the chassis which is nearly stopping one of my wheels turning
