FBV Likes/Dislikes

I know there is a very extensive thread on FBV, but it's so extensive that getting reasonably quick insights is tough.

As a skater, I'm interested in thoughts regarding pros/cons from the standpoints of 1) on-ice performance and 2) maintenance. Thanks, folks.

My quick thoughts:

I've been skating 1/2" FBV for a little while. I felt like I noticed a genuine increase in speed at first and continued to wear them for about 15 games without noticeable degradation of skating. I was then comparing notes with another MSH member who also had FBV, but was skating less frequently. He noted a serious degradation after 2-3 skates. So, I switched out my steel for a fresh FBV-sharpened set and the difference was huge.

I'm still trying to decide if I feel more grip/agility on the FBV or a regular hollow.

The last two times that I've had my skates sharpened, I've gone with the FBV 100/50. I'm not very good at skating, but it felt like the FBV held an edge better than the standard ROH of the same size. Unless I'm in a pinch, I do not see myself going with anything else but FBV. That's my two cents...

I think it depends on your sharpener. When I got it at first, I didint notice anything hugely different, except it was smoother and lasted longer than regular sharpenings. I suppose it really does perform like they say, but I haven't noticed anything better speed wise...or perhaps its just me :P
