Pencil Test

Recommended Posts

I have a quick question for you skate experts. I did the pencil test on my son's X60s from last year (he's due for next size). Is this test only done at the 3rd eyelet? At the 3rd, the pencil touches slightly, but at the 5th it rocks severely on the top of his foot. Does this mean his foot is too deep for that boot. He never complained of lace bite or any pain at all last year and skated very well. I tried a One100 on him and the boot depth seemed better. Should I chance a different model or stick it out with the Vapors? Width wise the Vapor is great with a great heel lock and no pain. His current skate is a 3D but he is now a size 4D. Would a size 4 Vapor have enough of an increase in volume over the size 3 to help pass the test?

Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be informed when at my LHS before dropping $400 +.

Thanks for any advice.

 .. anyways heres the link to the main topic with pics to show http://www.modsquadhockey.com/forums/index...0test&st=90 To answer that question the pencil test can be done on any eyelet, and if the foot pushes the pencil off the skate its considered too shallow, too deep would be having too much space between the foot and pencil where you can literally put your finger through it, the best fit should be barely touching the pencil but not enough space to put the finger through it. Hope this helps but consider reading that whole main thread first just a heads up.
