People go to LHSs for convenience. If you find yourself constantly saying to customers "I can order that for you", you're losing sales, unless its for highly specialized stuff. If I have to wait for 4 days to get a basic bauer helmet in size large, I might as well order it myself and save some money.

Carry only a few lines, but have all sizes, and you'll attract people like me that want to just dash in and a get a replacement whatever for the game that evening. And willing to pay a premium for the convenience.
