Reebok 8k Kinetic Fit elbow pads 2009?

Recommended Posts

I bought a pair of these, I thought they would be great protection for my elbows... From new they are a bit stiff, but I guess they will restrict movement less once they've broken in. The big issue I have with them is the annoying, large lump on the elbow. Presumably this is part of the mechanics of the so-called "Joint Discharge Principle" but they feel awkward and annoying. Also make me look like a complete dufus wearing them. And they are really tight in my jersey, creating a slight movement restriction.

Has anyone else found this to be a problem, or did you get used to it?

Should I sell them on and buy something else?

Cheers.

I have the 9Ks and love them. They are the #1 pad in the NHL. Can't go wrong.

I believe mine are the 2009 retail version of the 8K's. I tried them in a game last night, apart from the elbows being a bit large they were fine. Just a little tight in the jersey, but hey, you can't be fussy all the time. In other words they did the job fine.

I have these elbow pads and I noticed everything you did, huge elbow cups, my jersey is tighter and its harder to get my jersey on. I only notice these when I am getting dressed, but once I start playing they feel good and they don't move around like my other elbow pads and they cover a good bit of my forearm so I don't need slash guards anymore.

So over all I like them but like you said it is a bit annoying that the elbow cup is so large.

I have these elbows and I've used them for a year.

I've used JOFAs my whole "career" and found that the volume is actually smaller on the 8K than on the Vapor XXV, my back up elbow. I don't find that the tighter jersey fit with these elbows restricts the movement for me.

Flex is okay, much less than the Vapor XXV. I find that the small "tab" on the bottom of the upper elbow restricts movement when you straigten out your arm, but that may be to help protect from hyperflexing your elbow. And your arms is bent most of the time anyways. Not much flex laterally on the elbow.

Fit is bigger and the neoprene strap on the top is super comfortable and I find that the middle V strap stretched out that it doesn't really hold well anymore.

The elbow hasn't broken down as much as I thought it would, and I like that.

Yeah, I noticed that too. The tab creates a slight mobility problem when stretching out your arm and stick with one hand, to reach a puck. But possibly this is a small payoff for hyper-extension protection. Really its not as bad as I thought it would be before I tried them in a game.
