NARCH Pro final robbery

Recommended Posts

I was at the Pro final Sat night at Rollin Ice, and saw the refs call a very questionable interference penalty with 50 sec left in a 2-2 game. The Mudcats scored on the PP with 3 sec left to beat the Mission Empire Snipers, and about everybody in the crown was pretty pissed about it. Was anybody else there and saw it?

Wasn't there but heard about from a friend on the Snipers. found it odd too that Narch website really didn't have a write-up on it.

I think the writeup for the Pro final was under blogs if I remember correctly.

They had the 'live blog' of the Pro final on the Narch site, but no official recap of the final which they seemed to do for a lot of the other divisions.

I hope highlights of the 2010 NARCH Pro Finals show up on YouTube. I know the 2010 NARCH Pro Skills Competition has been posted on YouTube, so hopefully by the end of the week, highlights of the game will be available.

Here's the extended highlights, or shortened gameplay if you will. I hate the roller is about 5x slower on tape, but it was a good game til the end.

When I saw "questionable interference penalty" I figured I'd see a moving pick with minimal contact or something. The kind of call that is difficult to spot, and tough for an official to make late in a tied game.

Assuming the call was goaltender interference on the Snipers for the contact that occurred at 12:34 in the video clip, it looks like a pretty easy call (assuming they made contact in the crease, its difficult to say from the video angle). The guy backs right into the goalie, and it looks like he went in untouched. I didn't see the whole game, so the call may have been inconsistent with other calls/non-calls during the game, but it's pretty clearly interference from what I see here.

The guys working Narch Finals are generally very strong officials. It takes guts to make that call with under a minute left in the game, but its the right call.

Thanks for posting up this footage of the 2010 NARCH Pro Finals. I was hoping the people at NARCH would post up their footage, so this was an unexpected surprise.

Fisticuffs: I would normally agree with you, but in a play where the contact made no impact on the game, and with 50 sec left in a 2-2 game, that call is inexcusable. The Snipers, understandably pissed, took it a little far. One guy looked like he was going to fight the ref.

You blame the referee for making a correct call. I blame the player for making a clearly illegal play at a crucial time in the game. If you slow the video down, less than a second passes between the player taking a shot, the player in front hitting the goalie, and the ref's arm going up. That doesn't leave much time for the ref to determine whether or not the play is going to have an impact on the game. Frankly, it shouldn't matter anyway. That's not the standard of play being enforced anymore, and hasn't been for years. The NHL, USA Hockey, USAHIL, AAU, and RHA are all on the same page, if an official sees a slash, hook, interference, or any other infraction, he calls it, whether the offending team gains an advantage or not.

I think the problem with roller on tape is that the skating just isn't fluid like ice, and it just somehow looks weird. I think it also just simply is a slower game because starts and stops take a lot more time simply due to wheels not cutting into a surface.

That was my NARCh video, sorry about the quality. I probably should have set up on the non-glass side. Here is what I wrote about the Pro Final, but I did not have a lot of information to go on. Pace of the game was a little more deliberate at the start, but by the end of the second I thought both teams were flying. I hope NARCh comes back to San Jose in 2012.
