anyone deal with this? im pretty sure i have one as i have the symptoms that i read online and supposedly hockey players are more susceptible to it. ive been taking it easy and quit goign to the gym but i still feel soreness in the groin/lower abdominal region anytime my muscles are used. nothing severe though. is this something that i need to see a doctor for or will it heal as long as i continue to rest?

I had one in college and it was extremely painful. Of course, it happened with 4 weeks left in the season so I ended up having to have surgery twice. The first time, the surgeon put a piece of mesh in to reinforce it, like they do with an inguinal hernia, which allowed me to come back after missing a week and play the end of the regular season and in the playoffs. After the playoffs I had the mesh removed and proper repair surgery done. I still can't believe I was able to come back in a week from the first surgery when I remember how much pain I was in. However, there is no way I could have come back nearly that quickly from the proper repair they did, that was a long, painful rehab.

Two funny stories from that incident - the day after the first surgery I was feeling ok and thought I could go to class, so I get up, shower, and start to walk down the stairs to go to breakfast. I hobble down the stairs like I was 100 years old before I was in so much pain I had to turn around, on my way back I'm hobbling along and its taking me like 10 minutes to walk 100 feet, one of my roommates comes towards me as he's going to class, sees whats going on and carries me back to my room where I popped an extra vicodin and went back to bed.

The second story is later that week, six days after my first surgery. It was a Saturday night and a bunch of us went out to the bar and I met this girl. So, one thing leads to another, we end up back at my place doing the deed and that motion and "contact" was the single most painful thing I experienced during the whole ordeal. I ended up texting my roommate to bang on the door and be obnoxious/create a scene so that she would leave because I was literally crying in pain.

Any time you have lingering or acute pain, you should see a doctor.
