rbk 6k shaft with rbk 2k blade

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Greetings from Brazil. I just imported the Reebok 6k shaft:

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/reebok-hockey-shaft-6k-sickick-sr.html

and also the Reebok 2k blade for it:

http://www.hockeymonkey.com/reebok-hockey-replacement-blade-2k-sr.html

I made sure they would "fit" as on the shaft info it says TRADITIONAL SHAFT - Fits standard hosel replacement blades. On the blade info it says STANDARD LENGTH HICKORY HOSEL - Fits traditional shafts.

So if the blade fits traditional shaft and the shaft is said to be traditional I should have no problem right?

So I melt the glue and insert it into the shaft. It stops about half-way. So I apply more pressure and it goes all but half an inch, maybe a little less in.

I've tried reheating to remove the blade and reinsert but the bugger will not come off and I've tried everything to get that shaft all the way down but no go.

Has anyone had this happen or used this shaft/blade combo? I've replaced blades before and never had any issue either removing the blade or inserting, and now the blade doesn't want to come off again to replace nor will it go all the way.

I'm obviously not gonna put all my weight on the stick to avoid it braking before first use, especially since I paid 80 bucks for the shaft/blade but also another 80 bucks for UPS intl' shipping + another 50 or so bucks in import tax here in Brazil, so this thing has me back around 210 bucks.

The blade is firm on the shaft, so if I use it like this will there be any problem for the usage of the stick, as well as for the puck control and/or shots?

Thanks for any help.

happens all the time, they're not always exact fit. heat up the shaft a bit too, cause the heat will cause it to expand. usually i just hammer it by holding the blade and ram the shaft against the floor. it will be a pain to remove the blade though. when it's time to change the blade, 1st try heating it and pulling it, if that doesn't work, heat it up, jam blade against a door or something and starting pulling. if that doesn't work either, chop the blade off, drill some holes in to the where you cut the blade off and then heat it up again. the bits should just fall out. if you want to avoid fit issues, sticking with the same model usually won't have this problem.

Hi,

I used a hair dryer to remove an old blade from another shaft, it came off nice and easy. I used the same 1800watt dryer to melt the glue and heat the shaft to insert the new blade. It went just over halfway in, so I applied more "heat" and with the blade facing up and the buttend on the ground I managed to get it in with just over 1 cm left to go.

Then I tried using both the hair dryer and stove heat to remove the blade to put it back on, but it wouldn't come off, nor go the rest of the way in.

No heat gun available here I'm afraid.

I have a 5 team tourney this weekend, so I'll take my old stick and old blade along and see if someone can help me take it off, I'm quite big at 6'2 and 230 lbs but didn't want to apply full brutal force to avoid breaking a virgin stick :-)

Anyway thanks to both who replied.

YES. The gas stove is my new best friend. I was using the "smaller burner" afraid to do damage, but today I used the big bad burner and melted that glue until it was like water. It slid in the rest of the way.

Thanks to all and happy hockeying.
