sorry, i should have clarifyed myself. i meant that if you are with your parents and move out to an apartment etc, i totally agree, dorm life is awsome, i did that and it is unforgettable. also if you buy a house today, the house will never depreciate, you might have a short term loss, but if you are buying to keep it for longer then 5 yrs, your house will go up in vaule. but the market is so high right now (at least here in california) that renting is definetly a viable option

I agree with that hattrick. But the market is so high right now that you'd be saving money when house prices go down in the short term. And then making money when they go up in the long term. I would only buy a house right now if I knew I'd be in it for the next 15 years (which is nearly impossible to know). Otherwise, waiting a year or two is a good idea, IMO.

Don't know if my wife and daughter count as room mates since I am the only one working and paying the rent. If not, then I'm in the other catagory, else I'm in the apartment with room mates.

You have to get a good RA and play a little hockey in the building somewhere. Unfortunately, you have to save whiffleball until you get an apartment/house after your freshman year.

My RA is chill. It's the walking RAs who are the problem. Damn FBI wannabes.
