What am I missing?

Recommended Posts

I wanted to improve my stickhandling and my shooting this season so I brought a net and something to shoot off (see show it off for a pic of my set up) and I've been taking over 100 shots a day and stickhandling at the same time. I've been doing it for an hour or so everyday for the past week and a half and I already notice my wrist shots are alot better and my toe drags have improved. I really want to develop my weaknesses which are quick hands with the puck and off balance shooting. What are some drills I can do to improve my stickhandling speed and off balance shots? If you know anything else that is easy to do off ice and helps improve stickhandling I'd love to try it. Looking at practicing this week to week so I want to try as much as I can!

Thanks guys.

Try stickhandling with a couple of pucks taped to the lower part of the shaft and stickhandling/shooting while standing on something unstable like a wobble board, BOSU ball or whatever. Balance is something that you can improve with pracitce-it is not finite nor genetic

I'd agree with shooting off something unstable. Remember, in a game you're very rarely going to be able to shoot off a solid, feet set base, you're always going to be moving, shifting. As you move up levels, everyone can shoot hard, but not everyone can shoot hard off balance.

One thing I do, which I feel helps for balance is that I'll stickhandle, on one leg, and lower my body up and down. You have to use your leg not your back. It helps a bit.
