james12lucy 0 Report post Posted October 5, 2010 Hey all, just wanted to share an update.Looks like I have sustained a season ending illness. After two weeks of feeling terrible; throat aches, migraines, muscle aches, nausea, night sweats, dizziness, fever, etc, and finally having a stomach pain so bad that I decided to check myself into emergency, I have been told hockey is over for the season. It turns out I have mononucleousis to an extreme extent. Not only do I have swollen glands, but my Spleen and Liver are both severely swollen. I had two doctors with over 25 years of service each, tell me they have never seen anything this bad caused by mono. Both even said "you could die" if you got hit in either side and your organs repture. Apparently I'm not even allowed to sneeze too hard until they go down. Because of the rare liver involvement I can not have any pain meds; I've gotta stick this one out.I wanted to wish you all a safe and happy playing season. For the first time in over 25 years I will not be playing hockey in the winter. I think I'll suffer from depression once I'm feeling fit enough to play, because no doctor will give me clearence. Be safe, have fun, and rip a few past those damned dastardly keepers for me. I'll be living through all of you hockey whores out there.Cheers!Lucy
Hooah4 12 Report post Posted October 5, 2010 Hang in there! Hockey's the greatest game in the world but there'll always be time to play again. Your health is your primary concern and hockey'll always be there for you. Hockey to me is like a great dog: no matter how hard your day, how sick you are, or whatever's bothering you...there it is...happy you're back.

bostonjuniorblackhawks 1 Report post Posted October 6, 2010 Sorry to hear that man. I'm missing my entire season (acl tear)and I'm FU***** bored. It's weird not going to practices late every weeknight and going to some place for the weekend like Maine or NJ
BarDownGinos 3 Report post Posted October 6, 2010 You're whole season shouldn't be wasted. I had mono the summer after I graduated HS. I'd probably been playing with it for a month or two but after the doc diagnosed it I was only out for about 2 more months. Hang in there though, it's a shitty process just sitting on the couch waiting for it to get better.
