Blade wont fit in shaft

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a Reebok 8k shaft and an SE16 blade but when I went to put the blade into the shaft it would not go all the way in. I can visibly see there is something in the shaft so I would like to know if the Eastons blade tenon is too long or why there is a blockage in my shaft?

Use a flashlight to look into the shaft. If you see something in there, poke at it with a long tool (long screwdriver or something). You can also try sliding something down the shaft and see if it gets stuck or hits something along the way to determine if something is in there.

I recently tried to put an X60 blade into a Dolomite shaft and when it snagged with about a quarter inch to go, I kept heating and pushing and wound up breaking the shaft. I've done many combinations, different brands, never - never had that happen to me.

My suggestion is if you don't see the blockage and it's still sticking, don't push it!

Hey 96 thx for the reply, I have looked into the shaft with a light and there is a definate blockage and not just a little piece of glue or excess material. Now i've worked at a hockey store in the past and have played for 15+ years and this is the first time I have really seen any sort of blockage in a shaft, always thought that they were hollow. So I am more just confused as to, is there normally blockages in shafts? Maybe just in the 8k? If not I may have to send this back as I ordered it directly through Reebok.

It is just a very thin wall that can easily be removed with a long screwdriver or tool. I did just that on my 8k. I would not recommend cutting the hosel.

Its definately a solid blockage, not just a soft foam. I've tried poking it at it and such but its quite hard and does not seem that it is easy to remove (or should be be removed?) Is it that bad idea to cut about 1cm off the hosel of the blade? Or should i try to forcefully remove this blockage with heat and force?

I've had this problem with all my 8k shafts trying to put Easton blades in (only tapered blade I've used in the 8ks).

All I do it take a long screw driver or any long tool like a file, chisel, any rod long enough to fit into the shaft.

I take the tool and just knock the blockage out of the way, it takes a little while and you may have to pound it on the ground by flipping the shaft, but it will come out. I believe it's a composite that is in the way. It's much easer than you think and you won't have to cut anything off the blade. Use a little elbow grease and you'll be fine.
