Which skate D or EE need your help

Recommended Posts

I have a question regarding picking the right skate for me.

Right now I have a pair of Bauer Supreme one40 SR size 10 ( 11.5 us ) EE.

The problem is I find them to wide/sloppy on my feet. The length is good I think, I can touch the end cap just with my toe, but it's comfy no pressure.

I live in Belgium and the only local shop as far as I know off only has EE width skates. He doesn't even know the difference between D and EE.

Plus the supreme one40 and flexlite 3.0 are the most expensive one's he's got. So not a lot of choise. Mail order is the next logical step then.

I have been rollerblading for 15 years now (agro), so I know how I like skates to feel/fit on my feet.

And I like to have a snugg fit, so I have a lot of feel when skating.

Recently I've picked up ice skating as winter "training" since I'm getting old(er) and need to stay in shape :) .

I have taken some pictures of my feet (sorry), the paper with outline of them with the measurements (in cm and inches) and put them on my Picasa.

I hope you can view the pictures.

I weigh 88kg ( 194 pounds ) and am 1m88 ( 6,16 feet )

Which skate would be my "best" choise in the 150 - 300 euro's price range?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Peter

there are online sites that will do fittings. the one i know of is pro-skate. as far as a pro shop goes they're great, never tried their online services, but some members on this site have said they're not as great.

http://pro-skate.com/store/index.php

i'm sure there are other pro-shops that do a similar thing that other members can link you towards.

I've worn Bauer Vapors and Flexlites in EE, you certainly have narrower looking feet than me so I'd suggest giving D-width skates a go.

I know it's a long journey, but it might be worth speaking to shops in somewhere like Austria, Germany or Switzerland. You can pick up top of the range swiss-made Graf's in those countries for the 300-400 Euro mark. If you cant travel to those shops, you might be able to arrange them to send you a pair by post, try them on, then if they dont fit send them back and try a different width, although this will cost you some money in postage it sounds like a good idea.

I've got wide feet and Graf's that work for me are G70's & 709/G9 so I'd stay away from those.. Maybe try the 703 or G3 Grafs?

Thx for the reply.

I've been looking at Graf as well.

It seems like the brand has a very divers model range fitting wise, even models for flat or arched feet ...

I'll search some on the web to find euro hockey shops.

If you can find somewhere that has Graf trained staff that would be worth a long drive. They looked at my foot, figured out what model and even said they would prefer not to tell me the size until the process was over since fitting was more important than what size I thought I wore. All in all the fit was perfect and the sizing was a big difference in width and length than what I was wearing. I figure it's worth it if the skates last a couple years, which I expect with mine.

Thanks a lot for the help.

After some extended online search I found a local shop which was only a 1.5 hour drive.

The guy's there are hockey players and I got to fit a lot of different skates in the Graf and Bauer line.

I went home with a pair of Supreme One95 with a big discount since they are an "older" model.

He heat molded them and they feel awsome, need some breaking in on my middle foot. But a D is certanly a huge improvement over an EE for me. And they feel so stiff, I love it.

He also said that over here, only the better models ONE80, 100, X40, X60, etz ... are in stock in D width. Cause there is almost no request for them in the lower models.

Cheers
