Help with custom radius

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I am new here and appreciate the site so far, some good read.

Question, Both my sons (12 & 10) wear Graf 709 skates with Cobra holders and runners. I want to try them in a custom radius to see if it will make a difference with their skating.

Both boys are big (145 lbs & 150 lbs) and play defence, they both also skate a little bit upright and both skate on FBV 5/8 or 75/90.

I believe Graf runners are at a 8 foot radius. Could someone recommend what a good customradius would be for the next step.

Thanks,

Mark

If they're stock Graf runners and havent been radiused in the past, they are 11 ft radius.

Wow 11 foot, no wonder they are sure footed.LOL

I am thinking a 9 ft. with a little .5 degree forward pitch?

If anyone has an input, I would appreciate it. I don't want to be an anal parent/coach, but if it helps, why not.

I always have an extra set of runners anyway.

Thanks,

Mark

there's probably a good reason there're not that many responses in this thread since it's hard to understand from a very limited description that you've provided what is the problem that you're trying to solve?! not sure there's anything wrong with being 'sure footed'. Is their agility affected? If not then 11' might be perfectly adequate (isn't it the curent radius JR skates on?)

without seeing their skating style, level of play etc providing any advice would be like offering a specific prescription irrespective of what the situation is (wait bad example, GPs prescribe Tylenol as a universal panacea :))

case to point: both kids are in Graf which is a forward pitched skate. But you said they are skating upright, so putting them to a .5 pitch could only make things worse, and improvements should probably be made to their skating first?
