Shooting off the wrong foot

Recommended Posts

I'm ambidextrous and am still figuring out which side I shoot better from. However, I've noticed that when shooting from either side, I'm shooting/putting my weight on either foot. Sometimes when shooting right, the left leg comes up, sometimes it's the right..and vice versa all around when shooting lefty. Most of the time, I don't realize it 'til after the shot is done.

The last several weeks of watching games (beer, ECHL, & NHL) I've noticed that not everyone is always shooting off the "correct" foot. I understand the mechanics of doing it properly, but sometimes the wrong foot just feels better.

Thoughts?

I'm RH and on snappers I tend to use my left leg, on full wrist shots it's more often my right leg. Learn to shoot off of either leg and you'll never end up in a spot where you need to take one more stride before you shoot.

It depends on where you are on the ice and how you are moving, but I've always found that, as a righty shot, shooting off my right leg while moving forward provides most leverage, and off my left leg, shooting across my body is best for skating backwards. That being said, I'm also not an NHL player, so that may not mean diddly squat, lol.
