RetiredTender 0 Report post Posted January 2, 2011 Looking to pick up some new pair of mid level skates. I'd appreciate any help with reviews or suggestions. Background: Retired goalie, play about 2-3 times a week at a pretty competitive intramural level and mens league. Wore Bauer goal skates all my life, narrower foot. 6'3" 180lbs. I'll be heading over to HG tomorrow to try some stuff on and work from there. Any firsthand experience with any of the skates or another alternative around that price range is appreciated.
Hockeydog 8 Report post Posted January 4, 2011 Based on your size and the level of hockey you are playing you may want to look a little higher up the skate chain. I think the skates you mention might not offer the support you need, or would break down sooner. Ad don't limit yourself to the models you have listed. Take some time and try on everything they have. A mid level skate to me is more like a One70, Felxlite 4.0, Vapor X:
bandits_5 18 Report post Posted January 4, 2011 In that price range you could score these : http://www.hockeymonkey.com/mission-hockey-skates-fuel120ag-sr.html or these for even less : http://www.hockeymonkey.com/mission-hockey-skates-fuel100ag-sr.html that is if they fit your foot. they have a similar fit to the vapor , so.......... RetiredTender 0 Report post Posted January 4, 2011 Thanks for the responses. I checked out some of the skates in that price range and I would agree with Hockeydog, definitely a softer boot and probably wouldn't last long. I will probably hold out for a bit until I have some more money saved up to spring for a higher end pair.

The 120 ag is missions highest end skate! 199 down from 539. the reason theyre so cheap is because of bauer buying them out and not selling an ice line for mission anymore. missions entire line is roller , now. sharks25 9 Report post Posted January 4, 2011 Those Missions are extremely narrow and are very low volume. I skate vapors for roller whichare fairly low volume, but I could barely get my foot in the Missions. I ended up getting Reebok 6ks which fit fairly well, and are a good mid volume skate. Wallzy41 9 Report post Posted January 4, 2011 Throwing my 2 cents into the ring... I'm 5'9 185 and I think the X:30/One60/Flexlite3.0 would work for you. They may break down slightly sooner, but I just got my x:30's in the mail about a week ago and I love them to death.

I'm big on needing to touch/feel/try-on when it comes to skates. I've worn Bauer pretty much my whole life as well so I am used to the fit etc.The Koho's I have now are Pro Stock's in roughly a size 10/9.75 Narrow so they fit pretty well, but have seen their better days. Might wait until APX hits shelves and the current Vapor line prices go down.
