Anybody in Graf G35X's?

Recommended Posts

If anybody is using the Graf G35X, please share some feedback on these skates. I've tried them on, am leaning towards them, but cannot find many people who have these, and would like some feedback before dropping almost $700 on a pair of skates.

Thanks.

I've been skating on these for the past 5 weeks and couldn't be happier. I previously had fit issues with CCM (U+07 boot depth and lace bite) and Bauers (x:60's that caused a Haglund's bump). I had the opportunity to literally try on every Graf model to find something that worked. I have to say that now my heal doesn't get aggrevated and the presence of lace bite is completely gone. It's nice to now take off the skates after several 2-3 hour sessions on the ice and be able to walk afterwards without pain.

The skates have held up well so far, but I'm only playing around once a week for the time being. Protection is good, but I've been toying with the idea of some skate fenders just to ward off any potential foot injuries. They feel slightly less stiff and the boot feels like it's just a bit lower on the leg when compared to the x:60's.

You should be able to find them for less than $600 if you know what size you need. A friend of mine has a pair too and he's been skating a lot longer than myself...and he won't shut up about how happy his feet are!

I've had them since November,

FYI: 9.5 Narrow

Great overall fit. Locks my heel in and just enough room in the forefoot to not be painful. Coming from custom Vapor XXX's these are the best fitting stock skate I've worn.

Some things that left me scratching my head:

-The liner---maybe it’s just me but on a skate at this level I wouldn’t think that they would use material that felt like it was cut from dried out cat tongues. A few abrasions from rubbing on each ankle during break in (small blisters). I prefer clarino, but I understand that fabric liners are the new wave. It still doesn’t make sense to me at how cheap it feels…It’s like buying a lamborghini and having the seats upholstered in burlap.

-The ankle “foam”-feels like wadded up kleenex.

Baking really made a difference in getting the skate to really wrap around my foot.

Blade & Holder:

took me about 15 mins to adjust. Stride and balance on one timers and stick handling in traffic took a little longer to feel right, but that was more of a confidence issue. Still doesn't feel right when I'm digging in the corners.

I'm still debating having my old LS2 holders mounted on these. The guys at the shop said it may not make a difference, so we'll see.

Overall I'm happy with them; just some minor issues with getting them set up "perfectly" like my Vapor xxx's, but I do think I'm almost there.

The workmanship/quality of construction is great...no issues at all.

Quick update:

Had a 1mm shim added to the holder toe to get me a little more back on my heel (not by much). I played last night and they really felt great.

Just a little fine tuning was all they needed. Glad I didn't go through the trouble of getting new holders put on.

where did you get the 1mm shim material? what material was it? i put a 1.8mm shim on the holder toe of my new 703's but it was just a little too much so i removed it.

My shop put it on. I don't know exactly what it is, but it looks to be a semi rigid plastic (they cut it to the shape of the holder so it's barely noticeable).

1.8mm seems like it would be a bit much. I started with the thinnest they had available; but if it hadn't worked I had the option of 2mm & 3mm.

You should give the 1mm a shot.

I assume that you felt too far back on your heels with the 1.8mm, right?

yeah i wanted a little more pitch - funny how such small adjustments in pitch angle make a significant difference.
