Considering new skates

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm considering switching to new skates come April/May. Currently I am wearing RBK 9K's and have about 6 months use in them. I skate 3-5 nights a week and am a pretty heavy guy so they get a beating. When I first purchased them, they fit like a glove — as of late I have a lot of "slop" in my ankle/heel. The rest of my foot is just fine.

What I am considering is switching to the Bauer line however I have a few questions:

1. My foot is wide at the middle and a slightly narrow heel. I really didn't like the way the toe box on the Vapor 60's felt when I tried them on. How do the Supremes fit compared to the Vapor line?

2. I was very surprised that I got absolutely no blisters when breaking in my 9K's. The only discomfort I ever have with the 9K's is arch pain when I tie them too tight. Would prefer a skate that is know not to blister much (if that's even possible).

3. Will the higher end Supreme skates be dropping in price like the 9K did last year? (I paid $329 for the 9K's last April)

This will definitely help me out in which direction I should go when heading to the one LHS in my area with a decent skate selection.

Thx!

Supreme OneXX is wider in the front than Vapor, TotalOne a bit wider yet, from reports.

From that thread, it sounds a lot like I'd like the Supreme line.

The big question is, will the prices on the One100's drop anytime soon or am I gonna be dropping $600 on skates?

Nope, vapors will drop because they're coming out with a new line, but there's no supreme line coming out till next year

Fail. Well, time to start saving.

Unless, the the One100's are that much better than the One80's.

From the sounds of it I have a similar foot as you. I just got a pair of EE vapors cause my shops did not carry EE's. I wish I would have found somewhere that carried EE's in stock. The Supreme line has a D shaped toe cap giving you more room in the toe of the boot. One of my local shops had the One100 in a EE in my size and that thing out of the bok fit like a slipper. I have had my vapors for three weeks, had my right foot stretched and it still is too tight in the toe. So if you do have a wide foot like myself I would look hard into the Supreme line, the D shaped toe cap makes a world of difference.

good luck

Thanks AZ.

Will def be looking further into the Supreme line. I do know the local shop has TO's in stick so I'll try them for fitment.

I was told by the bauer rep that the total one will fit slightly different than my one95 or the one100 so be careful. Unless you intend on buying the total one. He said that the fit is a little roomier than the one100.

The liner on the TO's are different from the One100's. The liner is thinner so it will fit a little roomier. Some guys go down half a size in the TO's compared to the rest of the Supreme line so keep that in mind as well.

K thx guys, Im sure they've got a One100 or even One80 model. Based on the price, I will most likely be looking at the One80 as a baseline.

With that being said, I dont really get all of the marketing jargon Bauer uses. Is there a real difference between the One80 and One100 that I as a lowly beer leaguer will notice?

I was considering the same thing, only I was going even lower with the 60's and 70's. I will say after having held the skates in my hand you can definitely tell a difference in the boot material of the 60 to 70. the 70's have more of a composite feel rather than woven material if you will. Again you notice another considerable difference when looking at the 70's and 100's/TO. I am not sure of the "actual" differences as far as construction material, but you can tell the higher up you go the stiffer and more Thermo padding you get. They did not have 80's so I can't comment but I am imagining that they are inline with the 70's but someone more informed than I could probably give you a more scientific explanation these were just my observations. Ultimately I think I will choose the 70's as they seem more stout and I am a bit of a heavy weight. (If I can sell my Vapors)

For an example, I got One95s, which seemed to go on sale about a year ago. So I'd guess you'd have to wait almost a year for them to do closeouts on Supremes, to make room for the new ones.

My understanding is that you should be able to get comparable support a couple models down, like the One70, maybe One60, but they won't stand up as well to heavier guys, or last quite as long.

I don't play nearly as often as a lot of folks, but I went with the One95 because I'm about 250 lbs., I found them for $400, and at my age, with the frequency of my play, I may never need to buy another pair of skates.

If you haven't already, don't forget to look for reviews here:

I tried on Bauer Supreme One100 LE's tonight. Didn't wear them much since I was in a rush but I at least got a good first impression. I wear 10.5E Reebok 9K's. The skates I tried on were 10.5D's.

Toe Box - Excellent! I love the "D" shape. My 9K's cause a small calice on the outside of my big toes. Not painful, just a little annoying. Toes dont touch the toebox on the One100's

Mid Width - Just right. Feels about the same as my 9K's.

Ankle - A much more snug fit than the 9K's. Complete heel lock. I couldn't lift my heel out of the footbed.

Stiffness/Flexibility - Felt just right.

So, I've definitely gotten a good idea that I want the One100's. Now just to save up. Will be getting the regular model though. The One100's look badass but I suck — don't deserve to have LE's on my feet.
