wood replacement blades

Recommended Posts

bought a bunch of sherwood wood coffey blades, wondering if anyone has an idea of what shaft would go best with them, currently using a s19 ops that i cut to a shaft...i love it but i was wondering about maybe a warrior (that new tapered widow looks sick) or a bauer totalone ... maybe just looking for a more "thick" feel if that makes any sense... i will most likely be putting a wooden extension on the shaft as well incase that makes any dif.

First, you need to be aware of whether you bought tapered or standard blades; they are not interchangeable. Second, I find the Combat 52 Cal to have that "thick" feel.

TotalOne won't work for you, then.

What do you guys mean by "thick" feeling? Similar to Easton ST shaft feel?

Kurt,

How does the Combat compare to your other shafts? Is it as light as the Total One/one 95? I find that the Total One is too blade heavy with a wood blade.

It feels like the circumference is a little greater than others. I've been playing with Harrow, which I love, but wanted to give a standard shaft a whirl. I picked up the Combat and a TPS R8 Response Lite "Pro Stock." The TPS feels similar in my hand to the Harrow. The Combat is definitely light - yes, a bit blade heavy with a wood blade; a wood plug would be in order if I was going to keep it.

I really wish I could find a standard combo that I like as much as my Harrow combo. The balance is so good, I like the feel of the blade, and I love pattern #4. I was thinking of getting some custom Christian blades made to the same pattern, but I'm guessing the weight will be too much, and it doesn't look from what I read that you were impressed with the newer Christian blades at all (wish I could find one).

I like the older Christian/Harrow blades, but I may be in the minority. A custom Christian order is a minimum of three, but that isn't too bad. I recommend you talk to Christian about your concerns/wants because they can make tweaks that might address your concerns. For example, some folks get the extra glass to make the blades more durable, but IMO the extra glass ruins the feel and increases the weight (which already is a lot in comparison to composites). We use wood because of the feel, not durability, so I don't know why wood manufacturers try to compete on durability. Wood replacement blade makers are caught in a catch-22 I guess.

I believe CCM is coming out with replacement blades and the Tavares curve is similar to Harrow #4. Maybe you can try the CCM/Koho blades if you want wood.

Nice info as usual, my man. Do you have any idea how heavy the Christian blades are?
