Bauer rx10 vs RX8

Recommended Posts

What are the differences that would make someone "NEED" the Pro level. Brother plays against some A level but mainly AB. The Vapor x60s are on sale but he was looking at the RX8

To start a "pro" pad often comes without all the bells and whistles that are common on SR level pads. A lot of these features such as; movable knee locks, adjustable strap locations & calf wedges are nice touches but are just marketing ploys by the manufacturers. Most adults will never have a use for these because alot of the adjust-ability features are geared towards growing goalies. Now with that being said a "PRO" pad usually comes with a lighter weight, more durable synthetic leathers & obviously the "made in canada" tag. To alot of goalies the extra craftsmanship and the MIC tag are always worth the extra money. But the ultimate goal i guess is to find what YOU the goaltender needs to play at his best and if money is a concern, get what best fit your wallet. If money is no option....THEN CUSTOMIZE YOUR HEART OUT!

Ok seeing you volunteered. Vapor X60 Pro leg pads. Brother is a Hybrid that will get into a butterfly but more of an agile mover. I never paid much attention to his stuff but he has these Simmons 991 or something that are the worst pad for his style. 5 hole is a welcome sign its so bad.

Anyways I was thinking he needs a 2 break/soft flex. Those x60 seem to be nice but about 50% off. Are the pro model the soft flex or good for a guy that plays a lot like a Tim Thomas but with a TOUCH more butterfly?

Also the Bauer one100's does the 3mm blade help that much?

I am a high AB or A player and used to Ref to some higher ( not ECHL/AHL +) levels, so I am used to decent skates sticks etc. I am lost on the goalie stuff and he just needs so much I want to steer him right. Again he is a B level goalie that can survive A and would probably challenge well in AB

Bauer moved their entire operation over-seas. CKD slit between China and Thailand. I cam across an x:60 pro-return glove, and even that one was made elsewhere.

The X60 pads are a PRO level pad so they will be stiffer right off the bat due to the fact that they are designed to be facing PRO shots, but they had 2 outer breaks and 2 inner so they will soften up in time. As far as the Skates go yes the thinner blade and all the rest of the features on the new bauer skates are great improvements. Technically speaking, the new line of supremes are the best goalie skates ever made. The Vertexx cutout is an extra 22 degrees of inward lean the skate can have to help widen the butterfly, if you need it to!

That is great to know! What is your opinion on the McKenney pads and gloves you sell. Specifically the 870 (?) pro model. How stiff are they? Are they more Velocity like or Reebok with a single break?

Thanks in advance. If your mailbox is open I can PM to avoid de-railing the thread.

well unfortunately aside from custom companies like Smith, Simmons, Battram, Viper etc.. and the high end larger manufacturers like Vaughn, Bauer, Reebok & Brian's just about all mid level(all but 1 actually) and low level goalie gear is being made over seas. The new Reebok Larceny line is made of 100% Chinese materials. Even Sher-wood after what 100 years of Canadian made goalie sticks will be moving to china on a full time basis(their composite sticks were already being made there). The only SR level gear made in Canada today is Sherwood/TPS

They didn't sell, pretty much at all. So we decided not to keep them in stock. You can still order them but they are just not carried on our sales floor.
