Found a way to repair wooden blades to extend life.

Recommended Posts

I know most people these days have gone to one piece composites, but there may still be some holdouts who could use this piece of advice.

After going though a bunch of OPS sticks, I went back to wood and have gotten used to the Sherwood PMPsc 5030 Coffey curve wooden stick. I love the feel, but I'm a bit of a hacker and the tips and heels of my wooden sticks always start to go after a handful of skates.

So the sherwood I'm using began to chip on the tip and the heel was getting mashed. Part of the tip had layers coming unglued, so I got the idea to glue it back together and hold it with a vice grip wrench. There were all these weak, splintering wood fibers around it, so I decided to soak the whole end liberally with superglue. I then tried it on the heel, which was also beginning to splinter.

The result was awesome. It hardens up like a rock, and will extend the life of this stick considerably. Since you can get a 3 pack of superglue from the dollar store, this is a very cheap solution. I was able to do two sticks with on tube.
