is my stick broken?

Recommended Posts

So, when I stick handle with my s19 or really even just bump the stick a little bit i hear this weird ping sound on the inside of the shaft. The sound is produced right where "s19" is printed on the stick on the taper. Whats weird is the fact its on the inside but everything on the outside of the stick is perfectly fine. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks in advance!

My s19 does the same thing. Its weird, but it hasn't affected the performance and its been happening for a year or so.

hmm OK! yeah man it is weird! but as long as performance is all good then it doesn't bother me. thanks!

I'm returning my Bauer X:20 for a warranty claim because of a similar issue. Mine is more of a buzz than a ping and it definitely sounds like a fracture type buzz.

when you tilt the stick upside down does it slide down the shaft? Maybe try removing the butt end or tape depending on what you use and see if it comes out.

I'm guessing that it is loosened stream of hardened epoxy from the spot on the stick where the tapered shaft and elliptical section of the hosel are joined.

Sometimes it will break loose entirely and rattle around inside the shaft. Other times, only a small length of the stream will break loose: Imagine holding a ruler down flat on a table and then bending one end of it upwards while still holding the other end down flat. This is what the glue does and it causes it to rattle/ping/buzz against the inside of the shaft. Most composite shaft/blade or OPS noises come from either this or being partially broken, which will normally show other signs as well.

hmm ok so does this mean it is broken or just the epoxy has come lose and wont effect its functionality

Most sticks I always saw that made such a noise were not broken and simply had loose epoxy. Obviously I can't see the stick, so I have no idea if it is really broken. However, if a break is causing the noise, you'll likely know it soon enough after playing with it again.

hmm alright well thanks man. I have cut the stick so maybe that's what it is. Again thanks a lot
