black hills tj 5 Report post Posted August 24, 2011 New around here, but not necessarily super new to hockey. I've always been interested in playing, and have watched for years. However, I just started playing this year, and my little brother is also starting to play. So please excuse me if I ask some fairly simple questions. This is my first post around here, but I'll be posting more often now.My question, do all(or at least most) hockey pant shells fit over most other hockey player pants? My little brother is going to be playing for his first actual team this fall, and they wear black pants, but his current pants are blue. So instead of buying new pants, I thought I'd look into just getting a shell for him to wear over his current blue pants. Thanks in advance for the help!Mike
hockeyfan77 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2011 As long as it is a PANT shell and not a GIRDLE shell, yes, you should be fine. Probably want to size up on the shell also e.g. a large shell for medium pants.

black hills tj 5 Report post Posted August 24, 2011 No such thing as a "girdle" shell. There are pant shells and padded shells.PANT SHELLS = no pads; simply covers pantsPADDED SHELLS = commonly referred to as a "lower" on MSH. a padded shell is the bottom part of a two-piece pant. Padded in thigh area, attaches to the "inner" part of pant via buttons, and ends at the belt.Sizing varies on which piece goes in conjunction with what...PANT SHELL going over a standard hockey pant = same sizePADDED SHELL attaching to an inner = same size, depending on brandPADDED SHELL going over a girdle = one size up from girdle size in order to accommodate fit over thighs. Usually worn by those wanting extra thigh protectionThanks for clearing things up. Hopefully this post wasn't redundant, and it'll be helpful for people in the future.
