Changing the Color of Polyurethane (PU) or Synthetic Leather gloves

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone.

I've got a pair of Easton Synergy 800 custom gloves that were made for me personally, constructed from Black nylon and Orange Polyurethane (PU). I had them made for a team which wears Black and Orange, I'm no longer going to be playing for that team and I'm in two minds of trying to change the Orange bits to Black.

I'm wanting to know if there is an effective way of doing this, maybe using clothing dye, paint, ink, polyurethane paint or something else all together..? Unless it would look decent and be reasonably permanent I probably would just learn to live with the Orange bits.

I would also recommend others ordering custom gloves to think their color choices out better than I did..!

Thanks,

Stu.

I would just sell them and cut my losses on a new pair personally, but I know you can buy leather dye and dye for syntheic leathers that they use on car interior so it should be pretty effective, just google it and their should be a load of sites with a variety of colours as well as some tutorials on how to do it properly and effectively

No matter what you use to paint/dye/color/ etc. to the gloves it will probably never match up perfect and will eventually flake off I would imagine. I would try what snipy said and sell them and cut my loses on another pair or maybe try and trade them to someone.

I'll have a look for some Sythetic Leather dye, but like I say if it's not really going to work I'm happy to keep them and use them.. it's not such a big issue that I'd get rid of custom gloves with my name on them just because the colours don't match my current team.. obviously in a perfect world I'd easily and effectively make the Orange bits Black..!

$2 craft paint latex from Walmart. Clean with ISOpropyl or alcohol, even scuff up a bit with a dish sponge /scrubber combo. Brush or dab on, mask if you have to. mix your colors to suit.

easy to touch up too. water clean up. Can be used for fabrics too. I did my gloves and pants etc.

I've tried numerous ways on an old pair of Eagles I wore for a few years.

I tried two or three dyes...none on them worked for me.

Paint chipped off and just looked brutal.

I ended up using black electrical tape. If you spend a little time on it and don't stretch the tape too much it will stay on for a while. Just need to touch it up every month or so.

Do you have a picture of them?
