Old Graf Model Information

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I tried searching but didn't come up with anything solid. Does anyone know of a chart or something that shows the Graf line evolution? Like supposedly, according to http://www.hockeymonkey.com/graf-hockey-skate-g70ultra-sr.html , the Ultra G70 is the successor to the G9, etc.

Mostly I'm just trying to determine where the old models fit into the chart found here: http://www.grafcanada.com/hockey_skates/

I'm looking at those clearance Graf G70s linked to above, but not sure which "fit profile" they sit in, ie:

Heel width: Narrow/Medium/Wide

Heel Shape: Straight/Pronounced/Moderately Pronounced

Depth: Shallow/Medium/Deep

What replaced the G70s?

On a side note, what is the "flap" on the Ultra G7 supposed to do?

So I hit HM to look at those G70s. They didn't have any in the store, but I figured since the G75 is the successor to the G70, I asked to try those on instead, figuring the fit may be similar. They didn't have any G75 in 9W, but he brought out a G75 in 9.5R and a G70 in a 8.5R.

The G75 felt pretty good width-wise, but definitely a size too big. My toes didn't even come close to touching the end. Very good depth-wise though.

The G70s actually felt really good in length. My toes just touched the end cap and pulled away when I stood up and bent my knees. The guy at the store said it's pretty common for people to drop half a size when they switch to Graf since they have so many fit profiles, they better fit your feet. I dunno if that's true, but it makes sense I guess. The G70s were definitely not wide enough though. Squeezed my feet in the toe box.

So what do you guys think? Do I have enough info to be able to pull the trigger in an online clearance deal? I'm thinking 8.5W G70s. I don't think there is going to be an opportunity to actually try them on... unless I want to drive all the way back some time this week.. its about 1.5 hrs away with no traffic. Maybe that's worth it for a good fit huh?

I'd say you have the idea that you need. In the G series, I don't think they come any wider than the G70, so if you know your length is right, then going with a wide in the g70 is a good bet. . . . but with clearance and no returns, it may be worth it to try them on in store (especially if you know they'll be there)

Also. . . . with their black friday sale going on. . . . (not sure when that ends) you will get a pretty good discount getting them.

The g75 may have been wide enough, but you have to remember you tried on a size that was to big. Often people go up in size to compensave for not having a skate that is wide enough for their feet (when they are poorly fitted)

Crap I totally forgot about the black friday sale. Thats $75 off... Expires today. Maybe I'd better just order them and throw em up on ebay if I dont like them.

even without the $75 off, it's still a good deal. . . maybe if you call them and go to the store they will still honor the price.

Ah they close at 5 on sundays, so thats no good. Oh well, I'll get them anyway. I'm sure I could get at least what I paid for them on ebay or whatever.

if you get the G70's and they don't feel right at first, give them some extra time. I have 735's and G35's and the G35 is a half size smaller than the 735 despite having the same "profile" or same fit. The G35 were also a bit too narrow in the forefoot at first, but they aren't any more. I've got about 30+ hours of skating in them and the feeling of being too narrow went away after about 5-10 skates. The skate seem to gain a bit of length through the next 10 skates or so and the past 3-5 skates it's as easy to tie the skates as my 735's which I have had a bit more than 2.5 years.

Just give'm some time.

Reim - what size shoe do you wear? I typically wear a 10-10.5 and I fit into a 8.5R G70 perfectly. I have worn EE width in Mission, and I do typically prefer a wider skate, but I experimented with the G70 in R, because I wanted a bit more snug fit all the way around.

One thing I'm not necessarily a fan of is a roomy toe box, which you'll find on Supreme skates, and to some degree, the EQ50s I am currently using. Even though the G70 is not my everyday skate, I love the toe box as it makes my forefoot/toes feel snug and secure. Not bunched or cramped, but snug.

Anyway, good luck with them. As others have mentioned, you have to put some time in with them to get them dialed in, as they might not feel *just right* immediately. I may have bailed on them too soon, because the EQ50 was just too perfect for me.

I wear an 11 shoe usually. I'm currently in 9E RBKs. I put on the 8.5R Grafs and the length felt right (my toes used to touch in the RBKs too, but dont anymore), but were nowhere near wide enough. We'll see how the 8.5W goes!
