Adding padding to Farrell shoulders.

I've been watching the Farrell H500 shoulders on Hockey Monkey for a little bit and thought about jumping on a pair. From what I've read so far alot of people have been adding padding to the stomach area.

What I'm trying to find out is if anyone that has done this had any problems stitching these. I have never saw these in person so I'm wondering about how tough the material is. Has anyone any problems with them tearing?
