WeatherBug...

Recommended Posts

Somehow, I got WeatherBug on my computer and the damn thing is a pain in the ass.

I've heard it's some kinda of virus that will attack your computer if you don't watch over it? I don't know.

Does anyone know how to delete it? I tried the whole uninstall thing and it just tells me that it cannot be found, or some type of other error. It's clearly on my comptuter, though. Every time I sign onto AIM it pops up and doesn't go away until later on when I click "exit."

Thanks in advance.

Actually Weatherbug is a legitmate service. To get rid of it..just go into "my control panel" and hit "add or remove" (formerly install/uninstall) and select "weatherbug" and the uninstall options...continue to select the uninstall options and it will be removed.

I don't use AOL, but I've had WeatherBug on my computer for a couple of years now. I've not had any problem with it and it hasn't effective the performance of my computer.

actually weatherbug is a legitmate service of AOL which gets downloaded when you use certain of their programs. To get rid of it..just go into "my control panel" and hit "add or remove" (formerly install/uninstall) and select "weatherbug" and the uninstall options...continue to select the uninstall options and it will be removed.

I know. I've done that many times and there's always an error of some sort. It never removes it.

Sorry...I mis-spoke..I thought "Weatherbug" was affiliated with AOL, but apparently it is not. It is however a legitimate service with a "free version" which requires that you select an "ad sponsor".... which I guess will allow pop up ads from that sponsor, or you can purchase a "sponsor free version" for $29.95/yr.

I just uninstalled mine....no problems yet.

You may have a worm or Trojan Horse that has compromised your computor using the Weatherbug program to gain access....mine uninstalled with no problems and did not come up on restart. If you are getting an error message that does not allow you to delete it, something may have over-written your uninstall authority.

Definitely use ad-aware and spybot search&destroy regularly. WeatherBug does come bundled with spyware. It's not malicious, but any spyware sucks. Plus, that damn bug is annoying!

If the Add/Remove doesn't work, don't sweat it. Find the folder containing the main program and delete it. But run some sort of spyware detection and removal software before and after.

What is the error message you get when trying to remove WeatherBug? That would help determine what the main problem is. Also, what sort of antivirus software are you running? Grisoft offers a great, free antivirus called AVG.

SpybotS&D comes bundled with spyware prevention software that prevents things like WeatherBug and BanzaiBuddy from magically appearing in your taskbar.
