Good Value Replacement for One55

Recommended Posts

My sone who plays competitive Squirt travel out west is finally outgrowing the NB One55 4.5EE skates I picked up for him before last season. They have been the best fitting skates he has ever had. Unfortunately, as with all things hockey, since they are now at least two seasons out of production I have not been able to find another pair in a larger size. We don't have access to much of a LHS just a rink proshop and a PIAS within several hundred miles. So I have a couple of questions that might help us deal with finding replacements. He is about 4'8" and 89lbs and has pretty good form and I don't want to mess with his current ice feel anymore than is necessary. We are probably looking at a size six so I understand price is going to increase as we move into adult sizes but the more I can save on the skates the more money left for camps this summer.

1. Did the Supreme line carry the same last down from the OneX5 line to the current OneX0 line or were there changes made?

2. Is the One60 the closest approximation to the quality of the One55 or is the One80 closer? (I seem to remember early reviews indicating that fact) and

3. Would the Flexlite 3.0 be a comperable skate that might work for someone who had been in a EE width One55?

Thanks for everyone's help. I know everyone hates questions about model comparisons in a vacuum so I tried to keep to specific questions and include as much detail as possible.

From what I understand about the supreme line the closest skate to a One55 would be the One70. I am not 100% sure on the actual differences. You might wish to take a look at the catalogs from Bauer 2009 and 2012 to see if there are any significant differences.

Fit is the most important factor when considering skates and if the supreme fits his foot, then you should stick with Supreme skates. That being said he is growing and maybe his foot would fit a different skate better.

The best thing to do would be to try on as many skates as possible (I know you aren't close to a LHS) but if you make a day out of it and go to try some skates on you will end up with a better fitting proper skate within your budget for your Son.

Raft, absolutely right. Just because he fit into Supreme before doesn't mean (although it's unlikely) he will now. Definitely go in with a clean slate.

This. The shape of a persons foot actually changes significantly as they grow, and a lot of that has to do with the shoes they wear as their foot grows. I would def try a few different ones before buying, especially if he has had 1.5" of length growth since last fitting. Good luck!
