Strained Hip Flexor

I strained a hip flexor last week at practice so i took the rest of the week off, but played yesterday (about 5 days rest). I was fine, but i went to practice today and pulled it again. I dont think i gave it long enough to recover and thats why i reinjured it today. Has anyone had this injury? How long did you take to recover? How do you know when your ready to play again?

Note: I have been icing it frequently and taking anit-inflamation medication
