RBK 5K vs Mission 120 AG

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm here asking for help again.

For all of those who don't know (vast majority of the board), I'm from Argentina. This means we've got no LHS where we can try skates on, or get properly fitted, or fitted at all for that matter.

Anyway, I'm currently on RBK 5Ks, which I like fine, except for the fact that my ankle is a little wobbly in the boot, so I don't feel as stable as I'd like. Now, there's a guy around here who's selling his Mission Fuel 120 AG skates, which seem to be in awesome condition and happen to be my size. Do you guys think it's be a goot idea to go try them on and consider making the switch. Or should I not even look into it?

I should just get my ass up to Canada and get fitted, eh?

It's always a good idea to try them on. They should be stiffer around the foot than the RBK, but not too stiff in the ankle.

Gotcha!!

What I'm looking for is basically for my ankle not to wobble inside the boot, but to be able to get good forward flex at the same time. How do they compare in terms of pitch? Also, It's not a step down I'd be taking if I were to make that switch, right?

I love the 120 AG, it's what I am wearing now. You should be able to get them very snug around your ankle without impacting your ability to get forward flex. They come with the mission Pitch holder, you can change the pitch to three different settings by simply removing a screw and raising or lowering the steel. The +1 is pretty similar to a graf, neutral is what it sounds like and -1 will put you slightly back on your heels.

Thanks Chadd!! You've been great help!

I was a bit reluctant because we don't have any real knowledgeable people to turn to here in Argentina when it comes to equipment, and my former coach was all about Bauer or CCM. Especially when it came to skates. He'd tell everyone on the team to get Vapor X30s... LOL. Anyhow, lucky I got this forum to get some serious input.
