NHL attitude & policy on concussions

Recommended Posts

Article on attitudes toward concussions in the NHL:

http://www.thehockeynews.com/yahoosports/46713-Trending-Topics-This-is-why-the-NHLs-current-concussion-culture-really-sucks.html

And one on the non-existent "quiet room", and evaluation of head hits in the NHL.

Food for thought.

Very interesting reads, thanks wrangler. I know this isn't as much about attitudes as it is equipment, but why aren't helmets made more like football helmets in terms of air padding? It seems to me (with no scientific evidence) that the air cushions the head more compared to the foams and gels of hockey helmets.

Also, I wonder what the trainers of pro teams are doing as far as neck strengthening exercises. I would like to imagine that if more emphasis were put on neck strength then there would be less whip of the brain during a hit. Just my thoughts.
