Help getting use to an all 80mm wheel set up

Recommended Posts

I have been skating on tour ex1 skates for a few months now and they have hummer elite chassis on them. It's an all 80mm chassis (80-80-80-80). I have been skating on it for a few months and I still feel as If I have no first step. I feel like I use alot more energy while skating too, and I get tired faster. Is there anyway to fix this? Or help me get used to an all 80 wheel set up? I pla forward and I really need my first step to help me push off. Thanks for any advice!

Kyle,

I would suggest giving the HI-Lo chassis a shot. You will maintain the first step you are looking for and continue to better your stride, you'll turn tighter, and you will stop more efficiently. Participating in test skates we try numerous brands. The best response I've seen in all categories of testing comes from a Hi-Lo chassis. If you do happen to give the HI-Lo chassis a shot, please let me know your thoughts as I would love to hear them.

Thanks,

Tom,

I have had Mission t6 skates in the past, with a hi-lo frame. I have no problems at all with a hi lo set up. But when it came to being time for new skates the Tour skates I purchased fit my foot the best and appeared to be the "best bang for my buck". I am now not 100% sure on how I feel about the hummer frame but changing frames or buying new skates is not really an option right now. In the future, I am likely to either build, or purchase skates with a mission mag hi-lo frame. Thanks for the input, I can defiantly feel the difference in agility and taking off on a hi-lo frame just I need to get used to what I have.

how about some footbed adjustment? on my alkali, i added 2mm heel lift i (i made it myself). its pretty awkward coming frm hi-lo to straight 80.

Jazz, what did you use to make the heel lift? I recently purchased some superfeet footbeds and they came today. Skated on them today and they felt different, not sure if it helped much or not though. We will see after a few more skates on them.

Hey Kyle,

An option as well is to slide the frame back so you have less toe wheel exposed this will help during take-offs sometimes frames get mounted incorrectly exposing too much wheel upfront. The all 80mm wheel set-up when adjusted to properly should help in takeoffs and stops because of larger wheels grabbing the floor reducing toe slip during take offs and stops. Plus the all 80 wheels setup would have better roll reducing the amount energy expended during skate.

Let me know if you have any further questions?

Rob

Thanks Guys.

Rob, that is something I was wondering about myself actually. It doesn't appear to be mounted too far forward (maybe it is by like a few mm or so but I dont know). How can I check, or tell if my frame is mounted too far forward?

I had the same issues with my mission axiom t10's the frames were way too forward...I do not know if they were supposed to be like that, or now a days they are lacking in quality control . This is something you don't expect or should not need to do on a new top end skate. I had to pay my LHS to get them moved back a couple mm's.

i doubt that is the issue. some people just don't like how the all 80 frames make you flat footed. some skaters just need more pitch, especially those of us that used 80-72 hilos for so long.

Thanks for all the replys everyone. I recently put superfeet yellow footbeds in my skates and it has made a huge difference. I feel faster and I feel like I use less energy taking off. For now, i think that it might be the problem solver I was looking for.
