Turn a Grip Stick into Matte Finish?

Is it possible to take a stick with a grip coating and give it a matte finish? Whether through taking off the grip or spray painting right on top of the grip? Appreciate any feedback.

I spray painted a One95 with a clear matte coating a few years ago. Got the paint from Home Depot. Lasted almost 20 skates.
