Concept II Shield

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a Concept II (fish bowl) full shield, I was wearing a Bauer straight cut half shield, but after taking a puck to the mouth (saved by mouth guard), I decided to pick one up because, I really can't go into work with missing teeth or a bruised/Cut up face. Loved the vision of the Bauer half shield, I realized this may not offer quite the same, but was hoping to hear some good feedback.

I switched to one after catching a swinging stick to the bridge of my nose in beer league last season. I like it alot. The only thing that I didnt like was the peripheral puck vision when the puck was on my stick because of the bars. I'm sure I'd have gotten used to it if I had played with it for a while. I also hated having to unsnap it to wipe my face all the time. I took a dremel and cut the bars out just below the visor portion but left the jaw part of it in place. It is a good compromise, for me anyway. I am sure that someday I'll catch one in the teeth and regret it, if Murphy sticks around.

I've had mine for a whole year and I still like it. Only con in my opinion is the ventilation is terrible and makes it hard to breathe.

I totally agree. Makes it difficult to focus on playing.

I don't know about the Concept II, but I have an Itech FX-50 which has replaceable optically-correct shields and it works really well for me. Minimal fogging issues and it's optically correct, so there is no distortion to my vision. The FX-50 is discontinued but you can probably find it somewhere used. The shields are still being made by Bauer (after they bought Itech).
