Wheel Advice

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be playing a tournament on sports court soon and am looking to get a set of wheels. I am trying to decide between the Rinkrat Hotshot either xx or x rated hardness. Or a set of Rink Rat Splits xx Red.

I weigh 100kg and am skating on a tri-di chassis. The reason for only the rink rat wheels is because its what a local store carries and they have the best service I have come across so want to suport them.

I am after advice and any experience people have had. If there is a rep still on the site what would the company recomend.

Hi Darmin,

100kg is about 200-220lbs right? If you're skating on Sport Court, I'd recommend Hot Shot XX. The HS X is an outdoor 84a hardness and I think it may not be grippy enough for you on a tile surface...however you can try putting the X on the two middle positions on the chassis and the XX on the toe/heel spots...that would make for an interesting setup that i've actually never seen or tried before...but it may work.

FYI, I say go with the Hot Shot instead of Hornet Split XX because the split has a larger internal Mtech ring that would cause it to flex more than the Hot Shot. But again, it all depends on your skating style...I've seen heavier guys like you who are pretty light on their feet and skate the XXX Hornet Split and love it so that kind of throws any of my logic out the window right there.

What are you skating on now and how do you feel on them?

Thanks

Nick

I recently changed skates from a set of T9's (had trouble with the splits breaking down on painted concrete) and am now on a pair of rbk 10k's with the xxx hornets. I have only used these on painted concrete and so far they are ok, feel a bit squishy though, as if I have to big a foot print on the ground. On the T9's I used a mix of wheels settling on labeeda grippers that lasted well and provided grip on the painted concrete.

A majority of the changes between the old regular hornets and the Hornet Split was in the chemistry of the urethane. The splits should have better durability and bonding than the previous models. We also made some slight enhancements to the Mtech ring that would allow for more flex in the wheel, thus giving you more grip as well.
