Picked up a brand new pair of '99 Easton Z-Air boots, need advice

Recommended Posts

Has anyone converted these? I'm looking to do an all 80mm set up or a mission vanguard. What size chassis do I need? I've read conflicting things. Some site say large, other medium because they are pretty dated. Also, where can I get the chassis installed? There is literally nowhere around my area that does it. Thanks for the help!

Sorry Jeff080, my shop doesn't have any roller chassis or comparable skates in stock, so I can't give you a definite answer on what will fit. If you have to guess, I think the Medium will work best. One word of caution, when you install an all 80mm chassis on a boot that wasn't designed to hold it, you have to either dremel out a space for the second wheel, or install shims between the holder and boot. As for a shop, I don't know anywhere in your immediate area that I could vouch for. There are certainly reputable shops that are referenced in the "ice to inline conversion" thread. If you have the time/patience to mail the boots out, a good shop will put the appropriate sized chassis on for you. West Side Skate and Stick, in NYC, does great work. They typically don't do mail-order work, but It might be worth calling them and seeing if they're willing to help you out?

If you haven't found them already, there's a few good thread on converting boots, some specifically on doing the work yourself.

Sorry I can't be of more help. Good Luck!
