New Stick - Pattern Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

The Mako was quite heavy in comparison to other top-end sticks. The APX is extremely light compared to it. You may feel a difference in balance, but the weight shouldn't be a huge issue.

The Nexus plays a little soft, so 75 will probably feel closer to 70 or a tad whippier fyi.

I hope you make a smooth transition! I hate changing sticks because it takes me a while to get used to profiles, hopefully you transition better than I do! :)

I don't touch the puck enough for it to be an issue. Maybe 3-4 times a game.

Went in a completely different direction than I'd expected. Fell in love with the grip coating, the shaft texture, and the curve:

Reebok Ai.5, RH, 75 flex, P38 Datsyuk pattern.

Loved the curve, and I'm a big fan of square-ish toes. And only $80 so it won't break the bank if I end up not liking it.

Love this stick. My #1 stick at the price point and I found myself using it over my total one in beer league games.

Since, as you mentioned, technique is the major issue, I would go with a fairly mild curve until you begin to develop some preferences based on your experience. Modano/PM9 type curves are a good place to begin as is a P88 type of curve, though it is obviously deeper.

And maybe drop it a flex. Flex has nothing to do with a man card. its about what you want from your stick. If you arent a slapshot type then going to a 77 if you are a 95 now wouldnt hurt. Rereading you are set on the 77. Why? Most INT sticks are built the same as a SR so you can drop to a INT and work on your shot.

Flexing in the store isnt the same as flexing on a puck unless someone nailed or glued a puck to the floor.

75/77 yeah. I have an INT stick, its a 67 and is the same length as a SR stick when I cut it down (and therefore stays a 67 flex). I feel like I'm going to break it if I put any weight on it. I'm 5'9 240lbs, after all.

The 85 just doesn't feel right to me. I'm mostly going to be wrist/snap shots, very little slapshots.
