McNutt57 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2012 Hey guys...I've been a longtime reader on the board but never pushed myself to register.Well, happy to be here and I know you guys know your stuff...I'm looking for a LHS in Philadelphia/Central/South Jersey area you guys could recommend to work on my skates. Riveting a new holder on in particular. (hockey giant, total hockey, Iceworks aston pa, delaware valley hockey supply??)So like a few of you on this board I love my MLX skates. I'd say hands down one of the best fitting skates I've ever tired in years. The plan was to get through the winter and try the new Mako Skates out. Hopefully they are everything MLX skaters are dreaming for and I would convert over.Well this plan got cut short...took a puck to the steel and broke my last pair of holders. I have searched high and low for a new 288mm MLX holder/steel anything...no success. MLX website no longer, Easton basically told me to get lost, ebay has nothing, etc...I recently purchased a set of clearance Easton Elite holders (10 R 288mm) off of someone else's recommendation they would fit my MLX boot. They didnt...came close... but no go...So I am back at square one. I know some guys have gotten Tuuks riveted onto their MLX boots. Only guys I have spoken with had MLX not predrill holes and got a LHS put Tuuks on. Can I still get this done easily even though I have the original MLX holes? Sorry for the ignorance but I really dont know.Any other suggestions? or should I be in the market for new skates? I tried the Total One NXG's on this past saturday...They felt great just so different than what I am used too. Thanks Brian
t0nnn 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2012 I've used the proshop at the voorhees skate zone twice, the owner knows his stuff and did a very clean job. I've been using my current inline skates that he mounted the chassis on for 6 years now. As far as the holes, members on here use a 2 part epoxy and quick dry epoxys to fill them. The 2 part slow drying epoxys are stronger, might be an option for you.
nittanypucker 1 Report post Posted November 3, 2012 I've used Iceline in West Chester to swap holders and they didn't do a very good job. There is a place called Frank's Hockey House in Warrington, PA which you may want to check out if it isn't too far. I didn't know what to think of the place at first but I went there after some kid at Hockey Heaven destroyed my blades. One of the guys at Hockey House used to do the skates for the Flyers in the 90s (Lindros, etc) or so he says. Not sure if it's true but he did a very nice job on my skates. Give them a call and see what they can do. 215-822-5027
