I had a version of the Cooper Defenders purchased in the early 80s. Plastic took a beating when I stored them in the attic after moving to Florida, it became yellow & brittle. They had a plastic sizing piece composed of 2 pieces and some screws instead of laces in the chest area. Loved them, but when you hit or got hit hard the whole unit would shift & the collar would jam up into your neck/jaw. Also had a pair of the Bauer version SBD IIs, upgraded them to the more recent Bauer Pro.
