Sharpening/Profiling in New Jersey

Recommended Posts

I have an idea of which rinks to go to for solid sharpening from searching older threads on this forum, but tomorrow I should be receiving my BlackEdge runners and I'm concerned about having the product damaged by a sharpener who doesn't know how to work with BlackEdge.

Does any one know of some very good places that will know how to accommodate BlackEdge runners and be able to sharpen them and profile them exceptionally?

I live in Middlesex county and I can go to Philly if there are good places down there too.

The runners I ordered are BlackEdge Bauer Lightspeed II 263mm and I use a 1/2'' hallow and a 9' radius with a forward pitch.

If I am dealing with a sharpener who's never worked with BlackEdge before is there anything I should tell them regarding how to work with the steel?

Have not gone but heard though the grapevine that these guys are excellent. There is gentleman by the name of Peter who is there Mon-Thurs.

It sharpens the same, just don't hone it.

And since you have to cross-grind it a lot, tell him to be light (if I were you, I would pay him double for the sharpening as a tip. Might motivate him not to temper your steel.)

If I were you, I'd go to the Voorhees Skatezone rather than the Philly location. The older guy at Voorhees did a great job profiling and I'd trust him to do what you need him to do.

I called both the Flyers Skate Zones in Vorhees and Philly and one, the manager who profiles steel wasn't in and two, they wanted me to leave the skates overnight because it would have taken them an hour to do them they said.

I couldn't afford either of those options because I had work at 5 (work as a coach), and got home from school at 1, 5 minutes after my runners arrived from UPS. I ended up going to Monkey Sports in Woodbridge and they did an exceptional job. So far I'm very happy with BlackEdge. I'll be going to Open Hockey tonight to give them a real test.
