Skate Foam Padding Problem

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of Bauer Supreme One60 skates, and they have done me well until about now. I have noticed that the foam ankle padding on the outside part of both skates has been depressed so much that there is very little or no foam there where the ankle bone presses into the foam. Now I can understand this because, typically, you are on your inside edge while skating, so the outside part of the skate meets with your outside ankle bone often. Maybe I was hard on that part of the skate because when I was less skilled (have had these skates for about a year now), I was not changing to outside edges as I do now? Whatever the reason, the damage has been done.

Anyways, the only thing that protects my outside ankle bone from the hard plastic-like material of the quarter when tilting on the inside edge is the thin skate liner, which hurts a lot when doing certain things while skating (can't say what certain things, however). Again, this problem is evident on both of the boots. Is there a way to fix this problem without compromising fit, or is it time to get new skates? I am very reluctant about doing the latter of those two, but if I really need to, I can buy new skates. I just want to see if there is a way to fix the skate rather than spend a lot of money for a new pair. Thanks.

P.S.: If need be, redirect me to a topic already discussing this, if the topic/content is similar, and if necessary. I had a hard time finding a topic like this, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a topic like this out there.
