Can I re-bake my skate?

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of bauer vapor xii skates. I had them baked when new. that was 3 years ago. I am not sure if my feet have changed or im after getting fatter and older, but I have been getting some pain up around the top of my boot and my foot bed area. Im wondering if a re mold will put my feet in the right position again? Also, Im thinking about putting a pair of Dr scholls active insoles in them to help the foot bed issues...

New footbeds are a good idea. As for baking; since the skates already hurt, it's worth a shot. If the issue stems from the skates breaking down, it won't help. But at this point, you have nothing to lose.

awesome. thanks...I actually only have about 12 or 14 games on them as when I got them new I injured my foot (unrelated to hockey or the skate) and was off the ice for 2 years. last year I just never had the time. So the chance came up and im on the ice 2 times a week and love it!.

Its not too bad, just discomfort. I will hit the place where I get them sharpened and get them baked too....what is the proper way to lace after warming up?

Pull the laces straight out, not up. You don't want to pull the eyelet through the leather. Once you have them laced all the way up, make sure they are as snug as when you skate and do not stand up in those.

I have my skates very tight. I hate sloppy skates. so just pull out, to tight and stay seated...thanks for all your help!

I put in the inserts....My foot is right in the right position now. I am going to try them for a couple of skates before baking again...they feel so much bettter now.

Vapor XII? Any benefit from baking will be negligible, especially after so long and being the level of boot that it already is. Any benefits you notice could be from the footbed or mental.

You feel discomfort on the top of the boot? Where?

The ankle is pretty vague, perhaps you could specify? Above the ankle bone? Around your metatarsal area? The metatarsal tendon along the front where the upper laces are?

You can try the bake if you want, but if it's a spot issue, I would look at getting them punched out slightly at that point rather than heat up the whole boot and further breaking it down.

Ask your local shop if they can do this for you. It's a spot heat and punching will create an indent on that problem spot if the boot/foams are pushing/rubbing into that area.

If they can't and you feel this might work, you can always put the skate on and lace it tightly, spot heat the problem spot yourself (hair dryer, heat gun) and once it's sufficiently warm, push into that problem area manually (hands, get creative etc.) to create an indent. You could even create a small 'mound' of tape or whatever on your foot right on the problem spot to help push out an indent.

Again, this is spot treatment only.

cool....so heat the boot on the outside with a heat gun, while laced up and push it on my ankle while warm and try to create an indent

cool idea...I think the insole will fix the arch problem.
