Noob Skate Question

Recommended Posts

May be getting into roller hockey for the first time after being an ice player for most of my life. I've had a couple pairs of skates in my basement and am just wondering if anyone has used them or have some information on them with regards to quality.

The seemingly better of the two pairs.. the writing on the holder says 'Tuuk One Up Performance'. The wheels say 'Hyper Phantom'.

And the other pair are extremely heavy but I figured I'd post them :P.

The second pair looks to be very similar to the Federov Nike Special Editions? However, the Federov's were primarily white, not exactly sure what these are?

The first set use the old Bauer "One-Up" chassis which tried to simulate a rocker by running a 78mm wheel in the rear slot. Since 78mm wheels are no longer made or very hard to find, an 80mm wheel should be used and it will run flat.

Okay so the first pairs chassis/wheels are a no go? What about the boot?

Not sure about the other pair, no markings or anything specifying what they are.

Any recommendations on a good entry level indoor roller skate? I'm a relatively advanced ice player, but have never played roller hockey and have only used roller skates a hand full of time.

There is a huge difference between boots of many years ago and todays technologies. Pick a manufacturer which suits your foot shape, narrowest to widest is Alkali, Bauer, Mission, Tour, Rbk / CCM. All of them have good mid range boots but I'd be hunting at the sales for previous top end models that are on close out, although availability does depend on your shoe size.

Agreed, the boots of today are so much better then skates of years Gone by, what you have is 10+ years old. So I would check out what's available online... Browse one of the online shops to figure out what current models are and there price ranges, then go into your local hockey shop and try some on. The key is to get a pair that is comfortable.

i beg to disagree the new missions the inhalers run narrower then the bauer roller boots the idea was to do the whole supreme and vapor fitting boots one with each company.

I haven't had the pleasure of trying on a new inhaler yet, if so then this shows Bauer guiding the Mission line along their chosen path.

The inhalers fit like supremes, which are wider than the Bauer boots (vapor fit).

The missions actually still feel similar to the axiom line, just with a wider toe cap and a better heel lock.
