Inner ankle pain with RBK 8K skates

Recommended Posts

I bought a pair of Reebok 8K skates on Black Friday and had them heat moulded and the blades profiled. At first I had a bit of ankle pain on the inner ankles on both feet. I asked my local skate shop for advice and they said it was probably because they just needed to be broken in and told me it was probably normal since they are a much stiffer skate than my last pair.

The pain has only gotten worse and it's to a point now that I can't play on them. My ankles hurt to touch even after a week of not playing. I looked at the skates and you can see that my ankle bone is basically right up against the hard shell of the skate. There is a divot where my ankle bone sticks out and there is zero padding between the ankle and the outer boot.

I took them back to the skate shop where I had them profiled (not where I bought them from) and he said that it looked like a factory defect, because my ankle shouldn't be right against the boot. He said he couldn't punch it out, because the pump is right where he would need to punch it. I took them back to the store where I bought them and unfortunately the 60 day warranty just expired, so they won't return them.

What can I do to make them bearable? Anything? I have worn two pairs of socks once and that didn't help. I thought about sewing a piece of cloth in my sock on my ankle to give me some padding. Could I heat them up and try to knead the padding back into that divot?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Were the bladders completely released when you had them baked? If there is air in the bladders when they get baked they could rupture, which would cause the ankle padding to deflate as a result.
