Blade Protection (stick blades)

Recommended Posts

Alright here's the deal. I've found these prostock long hosel tapered blades that I absolutely love. The problem (as with any prostocks) is that I have a limited supply of them. I've broken two already and have very few left. Question here is what do you guys do to prolong the life of your blades? I've heard of some people using protect-toe around the edges of the blade. Does that really work?

i'm in the same boat as you. i'm on my very last long hosel whitney z-carb. the only thing i do to help prolong my blades is to epoxy any crack or chip i find. even the smallest ones. nothing else i've found works too well to help extend blade life.

Yea I do the epoxy thing too but I'm trying to find some methods that I can do to prevent chipping before it happens. I guess it's kind of wishful thinking but there are no retail patterns out there that really suit me and it's going to hurt when the last one breaks.

For my blades i put a stip of tape along the top, bottom and toe just to lower the risk of chipping and such. You could try that.

i never tried this myself, but its something i saw on a pro return in st. louis. there was a tyson nash response that looks like the blade was dipped in rhino lining for truck beds. it was a little more rubbery than rhino lining, but maybe you could try something like that. no idea where to find it in stores though. .........damn, this would be a lot easier if custom composites were avalible. damn retail high lies.

I would love to get customs... except for the fact that they're composite blades. It's going to be a dark day when the last one breaks and i'm stuck with the handful of retail patterns that have a 5 lie.
